The Food Bank Groesbeek and Surroundings Foundation was established in May 2012. Its objective is twofold:
The food bank is a neutral organization. Our work is independent of political or religious views. Our volunteers think it's a shame that so much food is still being thrown away in the Netherlands. By collecting that food, we help people who depend on food aid. These are people who, due to circumstances, no longer have enough money to live on. Long-term illness, loss of employment, divorce, etc. are often reasons for people's incomes to drop significantly. The fixed costs (mortgage/rent, energy costs, insurance, etc.) usually remain high. If people then have too little money to live on, they can get a free food package every week. If everyone helps out, it will work. We get help from businesses and social institutions with space, supplies, food and money. We incur costs for transportation and storage of food. In addition, we make sure that the food is handled hygienically and safely. The measures for this cost money, such as refrigerated transport, refrigerators and freezers, etc.
