Since 2019, the municipality of Berg and Dal has had a school counselor at all elementary schools in the municipality.

What does the school counselor do?

The school counselor's role is to provide short-term support. This can be for parents as well as to the child itself. You can see this as a kind of child coaching/parent coaching. The school counselor can help your child or you back on track within a maximum of 10 conversations. Or support you with your request for help. The number of conversations depends on the request for help.

What can you contact the school counselor for?

You can request a meeting with the school counselor if you have questions about, for example:

• Your child's development
• Questions about parenting
• If you are concerned
• If your child is not comfortable in his/her own skin, for example, with questions about:
  • Fear of failure
  • Self-confidence complaints
  • Bullying/ being bullied
  • Divorced parents
  • Mourning
  • Friendships
  • Dealing with emotions
  • Learning to set boundaries
  • A child who wants to tell his/her story to someone because of intense events

How do you contact the school counselor?

The quality coordinators at all elementary schools have the school counselor application forms. You can request these from them. Or you can send an email to: sociaalteam@bergendal.nl requesting contact with the school counselor. Please be sure to indicate in your email which elementary school your child attends, and we will link you directly to the appropriate school counselor.
